Time Tracking for Moodle
Record active training time in Moodle
Measure time with presence confirmation, prevent several tabs from accumulating time at once, and set time requirements before learners move on. View results in reports governed by Moodle permissions.
A minimum time requirement before moving on
If your programme requires time in a module before an assessment opens, you can set a time-based restriction. Teachers review course records, while authorised managers can view the site report.
What you can do
Time and presence
Count time while an eligible activity is visible and active. After a configurable threshold, ask whether the person is still studying and pause the counter until they confirm.
One activity per person
Only one activity accumulates time, even across multiple tabs, browsers or devices. The transfer control lets the user move tracking to another activity.
Time-based access
Require a minimum time in a course, section or the site. Combine the condition with other Moodle access restrictions.
Permission-based reports
Review participants' sessions and times, export CSV files and filter reports. Every view and download respects capabilities, context and separate groups.
Before installation
Requirements
- Administrator access to install the four plugins: local, block, report and availability.
- Moodle with MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL and a version we review with you before installation.
- Defined eligible activities, presence thresholds, exclusions and time requirements.
- Participant information about tracking, with decisions on report access and data retention.
Setup and support
The interface is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French, with role-based manuals in English and Spanish. Standard includes updates and email support per installation. Business adds guided configuration and priority support. Code is supplied under GNU GPL v3 or later; you keep the code received when the subscription ends. Historical data reconciliation and additional development require a separate scope.
Scope and limits
Records reflect time according to the configured rules; they do not demonstrate attention or understanding. Use in an audit or regulated programme requires a review of its specific requirements. The current version does not include regulator system connectors or IP recording per session.
What we can show in a demo
In a demo, we can hide the tab, respond to a presence prompt and open a second activity to check which time accumulates. We then review a time restriction and the CSV report.
A demo takes 30 minutes and is offered after reviewing your needs. If you only need a Standard quote, you can request it in writing.
Frequently asked questions
What if someone leaves a tab open?
Counting depends on an eligible activity being visible and active. A presence prompt appears after your configured threshold and pauses the counter until the person responds.
Can a learner accumulate time on two devices?
Only one activity accumulates time per user. The user explicitly transfers tracking when moving to another activity or device.
Who can view the reports?
Moodle permissions determine access and downloads, including context and separate groups. Course permission does not grant global site access.
Can I receive a quote without a meeting?
Yes. Describe the time you need to measure and request Standard. We will prepare a written quote; purchase and delivery are arranged separately.
What happens to tracking data?
The product uses Moodle's privacy API to export and delete personal data. Your organisation needs to define access and retention for its intended use.
Which Moodle version do I need?
Tell us your version and database so we can confirm the installation. Tests are recorded for Moodle 4.1, 4.5 and 5.2; verification with the official Moodle 5.3 release is pending.
